Introduction
If you are a finance professional with deep expertise in income tax administration and a strong management track record, the Government Pensions Administration Agency has a senior leadership opportunity in their Management Accounting division in Pretoria. This Deputy Director role manages one of the most technically complex functions in public sector finance — pension fund taxation.
About the Company
Managing income tax in a large government pension fund environment is a specialised and demanding function. As Deputy Director: Taxation, you will oversee the administration of all manual and electronic tax processes within the GPAA, including IRP5 reconciliations, EMP201 and EMP501 submissions, SARS interactions, garnishee orders and the correct application of tax rates across multiple income streams.
You will lead a team responsible for ensuring that tens of thousands of pensioners and active government employees have their tax correctly calculated, deducted and remitted to SARS — and that all associated reporting and compliance obligations are met on time. This is a role that demands precision, methodical thinking and strong leadership. Responsibilities
• Manage the administration of income tax reconciliation processes
• Manage integration of data between different income tax administration systems
• Consolidate income tax information on financial systems for reconciliation
• Undertake effective general ledger reconciliation on taxation and reconcile IRP5 and compile EMP501
• Verify amounts payable to SARS and ensure biannual and year-end reconciliation test plans are implemented
• Manage resolution of income tax related enquiries
• Ensure all SARS and GEPF tax changes are implemented on the system
• Manage the administration of garnishee orders from SARS
• Ensure timeous payment to SARS to avoid interest and penalties
• Monitor daily and monthly payment run reports and maintain IT88 and AA88 accounts
• Ensure compliance with PFMA, Treasury Regulations, Income Tax Act and Developmental Policies
• Manage all staff in the unit including performance, development, succession planning and budget
Required Qualifications
• A recognized three-year National Diploma or Degree or equivalent qualification (at least 360 credits) in a relevant financial field
• Six years of appropriate proven experience in a finance environment
• Three of those six years must be in management or middle management
• Computer literacy with good knowledge of Microsoft Office products
• Knowledge of: Income Tax Act and its interpretation, Pension Fund Act, Retirement Fund regulations, GEP Law, PFMA, Debtors Policy
• Skills: Good written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, coaching, numeracy, methodical thinking, quality orientation, team and service orientation, leadership

TIPS TO STRENGTHEN YOUR APPLICATION
• Tax administration in a pension fund environment is very specific. Highlight any experience with IRP5 reconciliations, EMP501 submissions, SARS eFiling or garnishee order management in your profile.
