ABOUT THE ROLE

The Assistant Director: Information Technology Security sits within Department of Electricity and Energy. The post is advertised under reference number DEE2026/021 and is based in Head Office, Pretoria.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Main duties listed by the department:

  • Provide inputs on the development and reviewing of ICT security policies, procedures and guidelines in line with ICT governance and States Security Agency.
  • Enforce compliance of ICT security control measures within the Department.
  • Assist with the administration of ICT contracts and service legal agreements.
  • Install latest security patches, firmware and updates within the Department.
  • Provide inputs on implementation of ICT disaster recovery.
  • Assist with ICT Security investigation and implement the corrective actions and tools.
  • Provide managerial activities.

REQUIREMENTS

The department lists the following minimum requirements:

  • An appropriate National Diploma in Information Technology Management, Computer Sciences, Computer Systems Engineering at NQF Level 6 recognised by the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA), PLUS 3 years' experience network technical/ scientific experience and extensive experience in IT Software.
  • Knowledge of: Information security standards and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Public Service information security directives.
  • Cybersecurity Act, Public Service Act (PSA), Public Service Regulations (PSR), Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) Skills: Excellent managerial, communication and interpersonal relationship skills, Strong leadership and organisational skills, Client focused, Negotiation and consultation skills, problem solving and analysis, Strategic capability, management and expertise in all areas of Information Technology, creativity and innovation.
  • Thinking Demands: Technical expertise in advanced strategic and business analysis, change management with knowledge of Public Service, Budget management, Policy development, Strategic planning, financial management, Project management, Government policies and Projects/programs in DEE.
