Introduction

The Government Pensions Administration Agency is looking for a talented communications and publications professional to join their team in Pretoria. If you have a background in editing, writing and external communications, this permanent Assistant Director post offers a meaningful and creative career in government communications.

About the Company

As Assistant Director: Publications, you will be at the heart of the GPAA's external communication function — editing all outgoing correspondence and publications, translating documents as required, writing articles and developing story plans for internal publications, and ensuring that everything the GPAA publishes is accurate, consistent with the brand, and free of sensitive or confidential information.


You will serve not just the GPAA but also provide communications support to the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) and National Treasury. This gives the role a wide scope and significant visibility. It is a role for someone who is a natural wordsmith — someone who takes pride in the quality of written communication and has the editing discipline to maintain a consistent standard across a large and complex organisation.

Responsibilities

• Edit all external correspondence including invitations, press releases, statements, responses, articles and comments
• Monitor content of all publications to achieve uniformity of GPAA and GEPF brand image
• Screen publications for confidential or sensitive information
• Translate all documents for external publication as required
• Source information, write articles and develop story plans for internal publications
• Provide strategic publications, content support and guidance
• Edit and translate content for both internal and external publications
• Provide input into and implement approved branding, publication and content communication plans
• Develop and implement the publications and content guidelines and plan for the GPAA, GEPF and National Treasury

Required Qualifications

• A relevant three-year tertiary qualification (Degree or National Diploma, at least 360 credits/NQF6) in Communications, Editing or Publications or equivalent
• Three to five years of experience in a Communications, Editing or Publications environment
• Two years of supervisory or junior management experience
• Computer literacy with good knowledge of Microsoft Office products
• Knowledge of: Official Language Act, Editing principles, Public Service prescripts and legislation, Translation practice
• Skills: Analytical, computer literacy, customer relations, communication, problem solving, leadership, organising and coordination, facilitation, language skills
• Personal attributes: Customer orientation, ability to communicate at all levels, outgoing, able to build strong networks, team player
