CLEANER (8 Posts) – Visible Policing, Multiple Specialised Units - Job Description
Introduction
Eight posts spread across some of SAPS's most distinctive specialized units make this one of the more interesting entry-level listings in the current circular. The Visible Policing Division has advertised eight Cleaner posts covering Rapid Rail Police corridors in Gauteng, Limpopo, and the Western Cape, as well as Veterinary Services and the K9 and Mounted Services unit in Pretoria West. Offering a Salary Level 2 package of R144,024 per annum, this PSV Circular 22 of 2026 vacancy is an accessible entry point into SAPS, with the added appeal of working alongside some genuinely unique policing functions.
About the Company
These eight posts span six different reference numbers and locations: two posts (VP E34/2026) at the Mi city Building, Arcadia, under Support Services; one post (VP E35/2026) supporting Rapid Rail Police in Gauteng North and Limpopo, based in Silverton; one post (VP E36/2026) supporting the Rapid Rail Police Retreat Corridor in the Western Cape; one post (VP E37/2026) supporting the Rapid Rail Police Bellville Corridor, also in the Western Cape; two posts (VP E38/2026) at Veterinary Services in Rodella; and one post (VP E39/2026) with K9 and Mounted Services in Atteridgeville, Pretoria West. Each post involves the same general cleaning duties, but the specific environment — whether a busy administrative building, a rail policing unit, an animal care facility, or a K9 kennel environment — will shape the day-to-day nature of the work.
Responsibilities
According to the advertisement, Cleaners will be responsible for:
• Maintaining a high level of hygiene in and around the assigned SAPS premises, including inner and outer perimeters where applicable
• Performing routine tasks such as dusting
• Polishing furniture and floors
• Vacuuming carpets and mopping floors
• Removing refuse
• Performing general maintenance tasks in and around the assigned premises
• Cleaning bathrooms and kitchens
• Safekeeping and proper handling of cleaning aids and equipment
• Loading and unloading goods
• Washing and cleaning state vehicles, kitchenware, and utensils
Required Qualifications
To apply for any of these eight posts, candidates must have:
• An ABET Level 4 / Grade 9 / Standard 7 / NQF Level 1 qualification, for which documentary proof can be produced when required
• Proficiency in English and at least one other official language
• South African citizenship, with documentary proof furnished on the day of the interview
In terms of knowledge, skills, and competencies, SAPS lists an understanding of how to handle cleaning detergents safely, awareness of occupational health and safety protocol, basic literacy, numeracy, and communication skills, the ability to read and write, and the ability to interact with other officials professionally.
The ability to operate elementary machines and equipment is required, along with a willingness to work extended hours when necessary.
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted on the Z83 form (2021 version), available at www.dpsa.gov.za/dpsa2g/vacancies.asp, accompanied by a comprehensive CV.
Clearly indicate which specific reference number you are applying for — VP E34/2026 (Arcadia), VP E35/2026 (Silverton/Rapid Rail Gauteng North & Limpopo), VP E36/2026 (Rapid Rail Retreat Corridor, Western Cape), VP E37/2026 (Rapid Rail Bellville Corridor, Western Cape), VP E38/2026 (Veterinary Services, Rodella), or VP E39/2026 (K9 and Mounted Services, Atteridgeville).
• Physical Address: Mi city Building, 540 Pretorius Street, Arcadia, 0007

Closing date: 10 July 2026 at 16:00. Late applications will not be accepted. Short-listed candidates must produce original certified copies of their ID and qualification before the interview.
TIPS TO STRENGTHEN YOUR APPLICATION
With eight posts spread across very different environments, your first priority should be choosing the specific reference number that best matches your location and circumstances — applying for the Western Cape posts when you're based in Pretoria, for example, is unlikely to work in your favor unless you're genuinely willing and able to relocate. If you have prior cleaning experience in any setting — offices, schools, clinics, hospitality, or even informal domestic work — describe this clearly and specifically, including the size of the space and the type of duties involved. Given that some of these posts are based at Veterinary Services and K9/Mounted Services, any comfort or prior experience around animals is worth mentioning, even briefly, since these environments may carry different hygiene and safety considerations than a standard office.
Mention your understanding of basic occupational health and safety practices, particularly around handling cleaning chemicals safely, since this is explicitly listed as a required competency. Make sure your Z83 form reflects the correct reference number for the specific post and location you're targeting.
TIPS ON STRUCTURING A GOOD CV AND PREPARING FOR YOUR INTERVIEW
Even for an entry-level cleaning post, a clear and well-organized CV helps you stand out among a large pool of applicants. Start with your personal details and a brief summary, such as: "Hardworking and hygiene-conscious candidate with experience maintaining clean, safe premises, seeking to support SAPS [specific unit, e.g. Rapid Rail Police / Veterinary Services]." List your ABET Level 4 or Grade 9 (or higher) qualification clearly. In your experience section, describe the specific environments you've cleaned and the scale involved — for example, "maintained daily cleaning standards across a multi-room office building" or "managed cleaning and hygiene duties in a facility housing animals," adapting the language to the specific post you're applying for. Keep the CV simple and to one page, since clarity matters more than length for a post like this.
For the interview, expect practical, scenario-based questions — for example, how you would approach cleaning a space immediately after an incident or spill, or how you prioritise tasks when multiple areas need attention in a single shift.
If you're applying for the Veterinary Services or K9/Mounted Services posts specifically, be ready to discuss your comfort working in and around animals, and any awareness of additional hygiene precautions this might require. Bring certified copies of your ID and qualification to the interview, dress neatly and practically, and be ready to confirm your willingness to work extended hours when operationally required.
A calm, willing, and detail-aware attitude in the interview goes a long way toward reassuring a panel that you'll maintain consistent standards once you're working independently on-site.
