Project Manager (x3 Posts) | Government Pensions Administration Agency | Pretoria - Job Description

Introduction

The Government Pensions Administration Agency has three permanent Project Manager positions available in their Project Management Office in Pretoria. If you have solid project management experience and a track record of delivering complex projects in a government or large organisational environment, this is a compelling opportunity at a competitive salary.

About the Company

The GPAA's Project Management Office coordinates all significant projects across the organisation — from IT system developments and business process improvements to infrastructure upgrades and organisational change initiatives. As Project Manager, you will be responsible for the full project lifecycle: from business case review and project planning through to execution, quality assurance, stakeholder reporting and formal project close-out.
Three posts are available, meaning the GPAA is significantly expanding its project management capacity. This reflects the scale of transformation underway at the organisation as it modernises its systems and service delivery channels. You will work closely with internal business units, ICT teams, change management practitioners and external stakeholders, serving as a central coordination point for project activities. This is a role for someone who is highly organised, analytically sharp and comfortable managing competing priorities in a fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities

• Proactively track project performance including milestones, deliverables, timelines and project activities
• Conduct quality assurance assessments on all key project deliverables
• Prepare project progress reports for Project Steering Committees and Project Team Meetings
• Manage project scope changes against the PMO framework
• Manage system test grids and quality assurance and user acceptance testing
• Monitor project risk and implement mitigation strategies
• Capture lessons learnt to improve future project delivery
• Prepare the ICT Steering Committee reports and present when required
• Manage the change management plan for new initiatives
• Prepare project closeout reports and handover documentation
• Develop business cases and present recommendations to the GPAA Project Board
• Prepare Gantt charts, Microsoft Planner or agile sprints for progress tracking
• Compile reports and participate in project audits by Internal Audit or the Auditor General
• Manage all unit resources, staff performance, development and budget

Required Qualifications

• A relevant three-year tertiary qualification (Degree, National Diploma or equivalent, at least 360 credits/NQF6) in Project Management, Business Process Management, Information Technology, Operational Management or B.Sc. Technology Innovation
• A relevant Project Management certificate is required (e.g. PMP, PRINCE2, Agile)
• Three to four years of experience in Project Management in areas such as Business Process Management, Operational Efficiency, IT Infrastructure Management or System Development and Testing
• Three of those years must be in project supervision or middle management
• Computer literacy with good knowledge of Microsoft Office products

How to Apply

1. Go to https://erecruitment.gpaa.gov.za/ and complete your full online profile.
2. All work experience must be described in detail. Incomplete profiles will not be considered.
3. Upload your qualifications, ID, Matric certificate and Project Management certificate at application stage.
4. Apply for reference number PM/PMO/2026/06-X3P through the system. There are three posts available — one application covers all three.
5. Submit before 12:00 midday on 03 July 2026.
6. For enquiries contact Sanele Ngema at (012) 319 3501 or Enquiries.erecruitment@gpaa.gov.za.

TIPS TO STRENGTHEN YOUR APPLICATION

• Your Project Management certificate is a stated requirement — make sure it is uploaded with your application documents. Without it your application may not be considered.
• Three posts are available, which increases your chances significantly. However, competition will still be high at this salary level.
• Describe specific projects you have managed in your profile — including the scope, budget, team size, timeline and outcome. Generalisations will not impress the panel.
• Agile, PRINCE2 and PMP knowledge are all relevant. If you are certified in any of these, list them prominently.
• Experience with IT system development projects is particularly relevant given the GPAA's modernisation programme. Highlight any system implementation projects you have led.
