Far East Rand Hospital is hiring two sessional Medical Officers for General Surgery. The work spans the Emergency Department, ICU, the wards and the surgical outpatients clinic, so it suits a doctor who likes variety. Pay is hourly, with the rate set by grade.

Responsibilities

• Give evidence-based, quality care to patients
• Manage general surgery patients in the Emergency Department, ICU, wards and SOPD: ward rounds, resuscitation, examination and perioperative management
• Help train interns and junior medical officers
• Complete medico-legal documents without delay (death certificates, for example)
• Keep departmental administration and records in order

Required Qualifications

• A minimum qualification (MBChB/MBBCh) that allows HPCSA registration as a Medical Practitioner
• Proof of current HPCSA registration as an independent medical practitioner for 2026/2027
• Reliability, discipline and the ability to work under pressure
• The ability to work independently and with a multi-disciplinary team, with sound decision-making
• An advantage: at least 1 year in a surgery department after community service, and BLS/ATLS

Job Benefits and Perks

Paid by the hour, by grade.
• Grade 1: R501 per hour
• Grade 2: R572 per hour
• Grade 3: R662 per hour
