Introduction
The Department of Employment and Labour is seeking a capable and organised Administration Officer to support the Public Employment Services unit at the Eastern Cape Provincial Office in East London. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in social sciences or public administration who wants to build a career in government.
About the Company
The Administration Officer will provide essential operational and administrative support to the Public Employment Services (PES) business unit at the Eastern Cape Provincial Office. Public Employment Services is the government function that connects job seekers with employment opportunities, supports training programmed for unemployed people, and regulates private employment agencies — all vital services for a province with high unemployment levels.
In this role you will handle HR administration for the PES unit, assist with budget administration, support training coordination for unemployed individuals, and compile the monthly and quarterly statistics that help the department understand how its programmed are performing. It is a varied administrative role that requires someone who is detail-oriented, good with numbers, and able to work across different functional areas within the same unit
Responsibilities
• Render human resources management functions for the PES business unit
• Provide support for budget administration within the PES business unit
• Provide administrative support for training programmes for unemployed people
• Consolidate monthly and quarterly statistics for the PES business unit
• Perform general administrative functions for the PES business unit
Required Qualifications
• A three-year relevant tertiary qualification in Social Sciences, including Psychology, Public Administration or Business Administration
• One year of functional experience in Public Employment or Administration Services
• Knowledge of: Social Plan Guidelines, ILO Conventions, Public Employment Agency regulations
• Skills: Planning and organising, Communication, Computer skills, Analytical thinking, Presentation, Interpersonal skills, Report writing
How to Apply
1. Download the new Z83 application form from www.gov.za/documents. Using the old form will result in instant disqualification.
2. Complete Sections A, B, C and D fully. Sections E, F and G may refer to your CV, but Section F's re-appointment question must be answered directly and signed.
3. Prepare a clear and updated CV that shows your qualification and your one year of relevant experience, with specific duties described for each position held.
4. Merge your Z83 and CV into a single PDF file. Do not send zipped files or image attachments.
5. Email your application to Jobs-EC3@labour.gov.za before 23:59 on 03 July 2026. Include the post title and reference number HR 4/4/10/05 in your email subject line.
6. You may also hand deliver to: No. 3 Hill Street, East London, or post to Chief Director: Provincial Operations, Private Bag X9005, East London, 5201. Walk-in deadline is 16:00 on 03 July 2026.
TIPS TO STRENGTHEN YOUR APPLICATION
• This post is open to a wide range of equity candidates. Ensure your Z83 equity section is completed accurately to give your application the best chance.
• If you have experience working with statistics or compiling reports in a government or NGO environment, highlight this prominently — it is directly relevant to the duties.
• Knowledge of ILO Conventions and Public Employment Agency regulations may seem niche, but even a basic understanding demonstrated in your cover letter or CV will set you apart.
• One year of experience is the minimum — if you have more, make sure your CV clearly shows the full extent of your background.
• East London is a growing government hub in the Eastern Cape. If you are not already based there, confirm your willingness to relocate in your CV.
