What You'll Do

• Promote sound asset management practices and advise employees departmentally on asset matters
• Contribute to asset management systems, policy and annual physical asset planning
• Monitor and manage asset verification, capturing data on inventory/room lists
• Manage the movement, bar-coding and physical condition monitoring of all movable assets
• Approve movable asset register updates and manage asset disposal and transfer processes
• Supervise receipt/issue of assets, perform quantity and quality control
• Reconcile BAS and the Asset Register, request journals to fix misclassifications
• Prepare financial information for statement purposes
• Supervise a team: allocate work, quality-control output, manage performance and development

What We're Looking For

Must-Haves

• Grade 12 Certificate plus a National Diploma in Logistics Management / Supply Chain Management / Public Management (NQF Level 6)
• Minimum 3 years' experience at supervisory level in Asset Management
• Working knowledge of PFMA, Treasury Regulations, B-BBEE, LOGIS, BAS, BAUD and Modified Cash Standards
• A valid driver's licence

Nice-to-Haves

• Demonstrated leadership and project management ability
• Comfortable managing disposal committees and reconciliation processes end-to-end
• Solid computer literacy across financial/asset systems

Introduction

The Government Pensions Administration Agency is looking for an experienced fleet management professional to join their Facilities Services team in Pretoria. If you have a solid background in government fleet administration and supervisory experience, this permanent Assistant Director post offers a stable and well-remunerated career opportunity.

About the Company

Government fleet management is a function that touches every part of an organisation. As Assistant Director: Fleet Management and Coordination, you will be responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of the GPAA's vehicle fleet — from procurement and licensing through to daily operational management, maintenance scheduling, fuel and toll validation, accident reporting, and eventual disposal in collaboration with Assets Management.


You will also administer the subsidized motor vehicle scheme for eligible GPAA employees, liaise with the Department of Transport, Gauteng Roads and Transport, and National Treasury, and participate in the Transport Committee. This is a role that requires someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing both the administrative and operational dimensions of fleet management simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Implement policies, plans and SOPs for fleet management
• Liaise with the Department of Transport, Gauteng Roads and Transport, Traffic and Licensing, and National Treasury
• Facilitate the coordination and use of departmental vehicles
• Monitor driver compliance with road traffic laws and ensure all passengers in government vehicles are authorized
• Validate fuel, toll and maintenance transactions before payment
• Monitor accident reporting within prescribed timeframes and pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections
• Ensure all departmental vehicles are licensed, roadworthy and adequately insured
• Coordinate vehicle servicing in accordance with maintenance schedules
• Administer the subsidized motor vehicle scheme
• Liaise with service providers appointed under RT Transversal Contracts
• Monitor pool vehicle utilization by MMS and SMS
• Manage and develop fleet management staff including performance, coaching and work plans

Required Qualifications

• A relevant three-year tertiary qualification (N Dip, B Degree or B Tech, at least 360 credits) or relevant qualification in a related field
• Three to five years of experience in Fleet Management
• Two years of supervisory or junior management experience
• Knowledge of: Transport Policy Regulations, Staff Management, Administration and management principles, Client Relations Management, Technical knowledge of vehicle maintenance
• Skills: Communication, interpersonal, project management, strategic decision making, leadership, delegation, attention to detail, coaching and mentoring
• Personal attributes: Initiative, emotional intelligence, integrity, customer service orientation, structured approach, demonstrable commitment
