Introduction

The Government Pensions Administration Agency is looking for an experienced physical security professional to manage and implement security measures across their facilities in Pretoria. This permanent Assistant Director post is ideal for a security management specialist who is ready to lead a team and safeguard a major government institution.

About the Company

Physical security in a government institution like the GPAA is a serious and multifaceted responsibility. You will be responsible for implementing physical security processes, managing security personnel schedules, conducting threat and risk assessments, overseeing electronic security systems, and ensuring that all GPAA facilities meet the required security standards at all times.


You will also manage the vetting process for employees, ensure compliance with the Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS), liaise with law enforcement and external security bodies, and provide security awareness training across the organisation. This is a role for someone who is disciplined, analytical, and able to handle sensitive information and high-pressure security incidents with professionalism and calm.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the implementation of physical security processes and attend to security incidents
• Assist in investigations into security breaches and maintain incident-tracking databases
• Implement physical security risk assessments including threat and risk assessments, appraisals and security audits
• Analyse risk factors for new and existing facilities and formulate remediation plans
• Manage security personnel schedules and track their attendance
• Render physical security services to contractors, provinces and agencies
• Review and report accidents and inspect all areas for safety and fire hazards
• Liaise with law enforcement and relevant external and internal organisations
• Monitor and maintain all security-related systems including DVR, alarm and access control
• Ensure vetting applications and security clearances for employees
• Implement the Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS)
• Provide physical security awareness and training programmes
• Manage and develop security staff including performance, coaching and work plans

Required Qualifications

• A relevant three-year tertiary qualification (N Dip, B Degree or B Tech, at least 360 credits) or relevant qualification in a related field
• Three to five years of experience in a physical security field
• Two years of supervisory or junior management experience
• Knowledge of: Investigations and security breaches, electronic security systems, policy formulation, OHS Act, fire regulations, National Information Security Policy, Security directives from NIA, SAPS and NPA, Minimum Information Security Standards
• Skills: Computer literacy, communication, report writing, interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, negotiation, operating and auditing skills, disaster and recovery, analytical and innovative thinking, problem solving
• Personal attributes: Honest and integrity-driven, non-aggressive, disciplined, assertive, precise, cooperative, flexible, self-driven, ability to work under pressure
