Responsibilities
The role involves managing grievance cases from intake through resolution within set timeframes, advising staff and managers on labour relations policy, and preparing and representing the department at conciliation and arbitration hearings. The Assistant Director will also negotiate settlement agreements, maintain accurate case reporting in PERSAL, run internal training on labour relations processes, and oversee disciplinary matters — from opening misconduct files to drafting outcome reports and ensuring cases close within 90 calendar days.
Required Qualifications
Candidates need a Grade 12 certificate and a National Diploma or Degree in Labour Relations, Labour Law, Human Resources Management, or Public Administration (NQF 6), plus at least three years of supervisory experience in labour law or labour relations. Solid knowledge of labour and employment legislation and Public Service Regulations is required, along with investigation, report-writing, negotiation, conflict-resolution, and presentation skills. A valid driver's licence is required, and the role involves irregular hours and travel.
