Grade Controller - Job Description
Introduction
Responsible for ensuring that the coal mined is in accordance with agreed standards. Conducts regular mining visits to ensure that the coal available and delivered to stockpiles and plants is in accordance with agreed blocks and qualities
Responsibilities
- Audit and ensure that the coal coming from the mines to the plants is in accordance with agreed daily, weekly, and monthly plans
- Liaise with mining to jointly make decisions on what to do when coal quality deviates from expected or agreed qualities
- Track, manage and report on the quality of coal in all ex-pit coal and product stockpiles through sampling and tracking in-flows and out-flows from the stockpiles
- Coordinate with mining and Business Planning to ensure that the geological model is updated with timely and accurate information
- Coordinate with a wide range of key stakeholders in the plants, mines, and Business Planning, to achieve coal quality compliance and tracking objectives
- Ensures adherence to policies, standards and procedures in all areas of operations
- Determination and communication of potential risks and measures to limit those risks at the lowest cost
- Investigates non-conformance to mining activities, identifies areas for improvement and implement solutions
- Carries out responsibilities in terms of HSEC requirements
- Responsible for compliance in respect to Company policies and procedures
- Coaches and provides technical assistance to contractor personnel
- Ensures adherence to own Personal Development Plans and Performance contract
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Junior Degree in Geology
- Site specific programmed
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in the production environment
- Computer literacy: MS Office
- Valid driver’s license
- In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
Advantageous:
- Registration with relevant professional body (SACNASP, GSSA)
- Knowledge of legislative requirements applicable to the role
- Knowledge of geological software
- Knowledge of mine business planning
