ABOUT THE ROLE

The department is filling the position of Biodiversity Officer Production Grade A: Issuing Authority. Reference number: BC25/2026. Centre: Cape Town.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Your key responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Administer the process of issuing authorisation of alien and invasive species.
  • Process permit application.
  • Conduct risk assessments for listed invasive species and alien species with invasive potential.
  • Liaise and advice stakeholders on the permitting of alien and invasive species.
  • Co-ordinate and participate in multi-lateral interactions to facilitate the implementation of the Alien and Invasive Species Regulations and associated norms and standards Co-ordinate and participate in multi-lateral interactions to facilitate the implementation of the Alien and Invasive Species Regulations and associated norms and standards.
  • Establish and maintain a register of all permits.
  • Provide a bi-annual report supported by the permit database Update and maintain permit database.
  • Conduct desktop research to ensure correct scientific names are allocated for permit application.
  • Provide species verification on the Alien and Invasive Species Regulations.

REQUIREMENTS

The department lists the following minimum requirements:

  • National Diploma (NQF6) in Natural/ Environmental Science or relevant qualification within the related field.
  • At least one (1) year experience required in a relevant field.
  • Knowledge of the application of the relevant national and international prescripts relating to the management of invasive alien species.
  • Knowledge on Natural Resources Management policies and procedure.
  • Project management, Financial and Procurement procedures.
  • Skills: Research.
  • Planning and organising.
  • Communications skills (Written and verbal) Must be Innovative and proactive.
  • Ability to work long hours voluntarily.
  • Ability to gather and analyse information.
  • Good interpersonal relations skills.
