Administration Clerk (X2 Posts) | Department of Employment and Labor | Eastern Cape Provincial Office - Job Description

Introduction

The Department of Employment and Labor is offering two Administration Clerk positions at the Eastern Cape Provincial Office in East London. This is an accessible entry-level opportunity that requires only a Matric certificate, making it ideal for school leavers and young people looking to begin their government career.

About the Company

As an Administration Clerk within the Public Employment Services unit, you will play a supporting role in one of the most important functions of the Department of Employment and Labour — connecting South African job seekers with opportunities, managing cross-border labour migration processes, and helping to regulate private employment agencies operating in the province.
While this is an entry-level position, it is far from routine. You will liaise with external stakeholders to source placement opportunities for job seekers, assist with the coordination of international cross-border labour migration functions, and support the registration and certification of Private Employment Agencies. You will also help coordinate large provincial employment opportunities sourced from key stakeholders. It is a role that offers excellent exposure to the broader world of public employment services and provides a strong foundation for career growth within the department.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with stakeholder relations to acquire placement opportunities for job seekers
• Provide information and support for the coordination of International Cross-Border Labour Migration functions
• Support the coordination of registration and certification of Private Employment Agencies
• Coordinate large provincial employment opportunities from key stakeholders
HOW TO APPLY — STEP BY STEP
1. Download the new Z83 application form from www.gov.za/documents. Only the new version is accepted — the old form will not be considered.
2. Complete Sections A, B, C and D fully. For Sections E, F and G you may refer to your CV, but the re-appointment question in Section F must be answered directly and the declaration signed.
3. Prepare a neat, updated CV. Even if your work experience is limited, include any volunteer work, internships, or school-level achievements that show your organisational and communication skills.
4. Combine your Z83 and CV into one single PDF file. Do not zip the file or send image formats.
5. Email your application to Jobs-EC8@labour.gov.za before 23:59 on 03 July 2026. Write the job title and reference number HR 4/4/10/04 in the subject line of your email.
6. You may also hand deliver to: No. 3 Hill Street, East London, or post to Chief Director: Provincial Operations, Private Bag X9005, East London, 5201.

Required Qualifications

• Grade 12 or Matriculation Senior Certificate
• Knowledge of: Relevant ILO Conventions, Human Resource Management, Batho Pele Principles
• Skills: Planning and organizing, Verbal and written communication, Analytical thinking, Computer literacy, Presentation, Interpersonal skills, Report writing, Innovative thinking

How to Apply

• This is a Matric-level post, which means competition will be very high. Make your CV stand out by including any computer skills, Microsoft Office experience, or administrative tasks you have performed even in informal settings.
• Knowledge of ILO Conventions and Batho Pele Principles is listed as a requirement — do a quick online search on these topics before your interview so you can speak to them confidently.
• Computer literacy is essential. If you have certificates from any computer training courses, include copies when you are shortlisted.
• There are two posts available, but you only need to submit one application — the department will consider you for both.
• East London is the base for this role. If you are applying from another town in the Eastern Cape, make it clear in your CV that you are available to start immediately and willing to work in East London.
