Team Leader: Inspection and Enforcement Services | Department of Employment and Labour | Calvinia - Job Description
Introduction
If you are an experienced labour inspector looking to step into a leadership role, the Department of Employment and Labour is offering a Team Leader position at the Calvinia Labour Centre in the Northern Cape. This is a great opportunity to grow your career while making a real difference in your community
About the Company
As Team Leader at the Calvinia Labour Centre, you will be responsible for planning and conducting labour inspections across your allocated area, ensuring that employers comply with South Africa's broad range of labor legislation. You will supervise a small team of inspectors and guide them in their day-to-day enforcement activities.
This role requires someone who is comfortable working independently in the field, conducting investigations, and if necessary, appearing in court as a state witness. You will also be expected to run regular BLITZ inspections and community advocacy campaigns to educate employers and workers about their rights. It is a varied, hands-on position that suits someone who is passionate about fairness in the workplace and is ready to take on supervisory responsibility
Responsibilities
• Plan and conduct thorough inspections to ensure compliance with BCEA, LRA, EEA, UIA, COIDA, OHS Act and UI Contribution Act
• Independently investigate reported cases of labour law contraventions and enforce where necessary, including appearing in court as a state witness
• Conduct regular proactive BLITZ inspections to monitor employer compliance
• Run advocacy campaigns on labour legislation and analyse their impact
• Contribute to the drafting and maintenance of regional inspection plans and consolidated statistical reports
• Supervise resources within the sub-section
Required Qualifications
• A three-year National Diploma (NQF6) or Undergraduate Bachelor Degree (NQF7) in Labour Relations, Labour Law, LLB or BCOM Law
• A valid driver's licence
• Two years' functional experience in Inspection and Enforcement Services
• Knowledge of: Departmental policies and procedures, Skills Development Act, Labour Relations Act, BCEA, Skills Development Levies Act, OHS Act, COIDA, SABS Codes, Unemployment Insurance Act, UI Contribution Act, Employment Equity Act, Immigration Act
How to Apply
1. Download the new Z83 application form from www.gov.za/documents. Make sure it is the new version — old Z83 forms will be rejected.
2. Complete Sections A, B, C and D fully. For Sections E, F and G you may refer to your CV, but the re-appointment question in Section F must be answered and the declaration signed.
3. Prepare a detailed, up-to-date CV that clearly shows your two years of inspection and enforcement experience.
4. Combine your completed Z83 and CV into one single PDF file before sending. Do not zip the file or send images.
5. Email your application to Jobs-NCCAL@LABOUR.gov.za before 23:59 on 03 July 2026. Write the job title and reference number HR 4/4/8/178 clearly in the subject line.
6. Alternatively, hand deliver to: Chief Director: Provincial Operations, Cnr Compound and Pniel Road, Kimberley, or post to Private Bag X5012, Kimberley, 8301. Walk-in deadline is 16:00 on 03 July 2026.
TIPS TO STRENGTHEN YOUR APPLICATION
• This post gives priority to Coloured Male, Indian Male and Female, and White Male candidates per the department's EE targets. Make sure your equity details are filled in correctly on the Z83.
• Calvinia is a smaller town in the Northern Cape — if you are willing to relocate, mention this clearly in your CV as it shows commitment.
• Your two years of inspection experience must be clearly laid out in your CV with specific dates, duties and the legislation you enforced. Vague descriptions will not impress the selection panel.
• Brush up on all the legislation listed in the requirements — shortlisted candidates will be assessed practically, so theoretical knowledge alone will not be enough.
• A valid driver's licence is a hard requirement. If yours is due to expire, renew it before you apply
