About the Company
The Assistant Director for Inspection and Enforcement Services plays a critical leadership role within the Durban Labour Centre. You will be responsible for overseeing a team of inspectors who ensure that employers across the region comply with South Africa's employment laws. This is not a desk-bound position — it requires someone who is confident in the field, capable of managing complex enforcement operations, and comfortable representing the state in formal adjudication forums.
Day to day, you will plan and monitor inspection programmed, review the quality of your team's enforcement actions, and compile statistical reports for the Labor Centre. This role carries real responsibility and offers an opportunity to make a measurable difference in the lives of working South Africans.

• Plan, manage and monitor quality inspections to enforce compliance with employment law
• Monitor and handle cases where employment law has been contravened, including appearing as a state witness in adjudication forums
• Provide quality assurance to inspectors and prepare reports for legal processes
• Manage and guide the BLITZ inspections programmed

• Compile and consolidate statistical reports for the Labour Centre
• Manage all resources within the Inspection and Enforcement Unit

• A qualification at NQF6 recognized by SAQA in B-Proc, B-Juris, Labor Relations, Industrial Relations, Labor Law, Employment Relations, B-COM Law, BA Law, or LLB
• A valid driver's license
• Four years' functional experience, of which two years must be at supervisory level and two years in inspections or enforcement services
• Knowledge of: Labor Relations Act, COIDA, Unemployment Insurance Act, UI Contributions Act, PFMA, Public Service Regulations, Pension Fund Act, BCEA, National Minimum Wage Act, Public Service Act

TIPS TO STRENGTHEN YOUR APPLICATION
• This post gives priority to Coloured, Indian and White Male candidates in line with the department's Employment Equity plan — check that your Z83 equity section is completed accurately.
• Your CV must clearly show your two years of supervisory experience and two years in inspection or enforcement. Use specific job titles, dates and responsibilities to make this easy for the panel to verify.
• If you have experience appearing in adjudication forums or court as a state witness, highlight this prominently — it is directly relevant to this role.
• Shortlisted candidates will face two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise and an integrity assessment. Prepare by reviewing the key labour legislation listed in the requirements.
• Only shortlisted candidates need to submit certified copies of qualifications, so do not send these with your initial application.
