Senior Administrative Officer (Project NEEDU) - Job Description
Introduction
The Department of Basic Education's Project NEEDU team needs a Senior Administrative Officer to support data collection, capturing, and reporting for its school evaluation research, based in Pretoria
About the Company
This role sits within the Branch: Delivery and Support, under Project NEEDU.
Responsibilities
• Transcribe and record interviews verbatim to support data analysis
• Capture and collect data from schools, districts, and provincial offices via questionnaires
• Clean and sort data across different databases
• Sort and package documentation collected by researchers in the field
• Assist with calling schools and districts to arrange visits and follow up on documentation
• Train, supervise, and guide a data capturing and cleaning team
• Scan and file completed data instruments
• Format prepared reports
• Maintain leave and risk registers
• Monitor expenditure using monthly cashflow statements
• Arrange researcher travel plans
• Quality-assure researchers' subsistence and travel claims before submission
• Carry out other duties as assigned within the ambit of labour law
Required Qualifications
• Three-year post-matric qualification (NQF Level 6) or SAQA equivalent
• 2 years' experience in the Basic Education sector
• Knowledge of education policy and legislation
• Strong language competency in Sepedi and isiZulu
• Understanding of Whole-School Evaluation (WSE)
• Strong verbal and written communication
• Understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methodology
• Sound analytical, report-writing, and presentation skills (including MS PowerPoint)
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Computer literacy (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
• Ability to work independently to meet targets
• Willingness to work extended hours and travel
• A passion for contributing to South African education
