Assistant Director: Provincial School Improvement Support Coordinators – Department of Basic Education - Job Description
Introduction
The Department of Basic Education is recruiting six Assistant Directors to coordinate school improvement support across selected districts in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and Mpumalanga, on a contract basis
About the Company
This role falls under the Branch: Delivery and Support, Chief Directorate: Planning and Implementation Support, Directorate: School-Level Planning, Monitoring, Development and Support
Responsibilities
• Work with circuit managers to build a data-driven approach to school improvement
• Take part in multi-disciplinary teams implementing interventions to improve education quality
• Develop plans to address identified teaching weaknesses
• Evaluate circuit priorities, deliverables, and year plans, and support implementation of circuit improvement plans
• Monitor the refinement and implementation of improvement plans and record lessons learnt
• Oversee turnaround strategies for each identified circuit
• Follow up to ensure sustainability of expertise
• Compile and present progress, quarterly, and annual reports
Required Qualifications
• Three-year qualification (NQF Level 6) in Education, including professional teacher training and SACE registration
• 3 years' relevant supervisory-level experience
• At least 3 years' experience as a deputy principal, principal, or above
• Honours degree or higher an advantage
• Minimum 8 years' teaching experience
• Strong understanding of the South African education sector and project implementation
• Ability to produce quality work under pressure and manage deadlines
• Ability to work across levels, both independently and as part of a team
• Skilled in interpreting performance data to identify and close gaps
• Sound knowledge of CAPS and programme development
• Strong analytical, computer, and communication skills
• Willingness to travel frequently
• Valid driver's licence and own transport
