As part of the College's operations team, the successful candidate will play a key role in safeguarding staff, students, and assets while supporting a safe and compliant learning environment.
Responsibilities
The Senior Safety Officer will be responsible for:
• Conducting frequent safety and security risk assessments and identifying potential hazards
• Implementing control measures and OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) policies and programmes
• Identifying, classifying, and recording all security risks and breaches to support decision-making
• Maintaining a database of security breaches and compiling regular risk reports
• Advising management on safety measures, potential risks, and awareness campaigns
• Determining the college's security needs, developing work schedules, and allocating tasks
• Ensuring all entry points are properly guarded and monitored
• Overseeing the safekeeping and issuing of keys, including managing lost or stolen key incidents
• Coordinating repairs of damaged locks and overseeing installation of new locks
• Investigating incidents to determine root causes and responding to routine and emergency access requests
Required Qualifications
• National Diploma in Safety Management (NQF Level 6)
• A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience in safety management
• Knowledge of access control procedures and the control/movement of equipment and stores
• Familiarity with prescribed security procedures (e.g. MISS, NIA, Protection of Information Act) and related authority
• Understanding of relevant emergency procedures
• Strong computer literacy, communication, facilitation, presentation, and liaison skills
• Sound report-writing and interpersonal abilities
